New Categories for Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards 2012 launched [Press Releases]
Singapore, 7 March 2012 – The Singapore Environment Council (SEC) today announced that applications have opened for the Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards (SEAA) 2012.
2 This year’s SEAA programme takes a great leap forward by reaching out to applicants from other countries in the ASEAN region with the introduction of a new category for companies within Southeast Asia. The SEC is also re-introducing the Public Sector category to the SEAA in recognition of the excellent environmental stewardship and green initiatives that public organisations have shown. Nanyang Polytechnic was the last winner from the Public Sector category in 2005, when the award was last presented to agencies from the public sector organisations.
3 Another new award category that will be introduced is the Outstanding Singapore Environmental Achievement Award, which will be presented to the top performer selected from the winners of all the award categories.
4 SEC Executive Director Mr Jose Raymond said that he was confident that the SEAA 2012 would attract a wide range of applications from various sectors and organisations. He said, “Over the years, quite a number of winners of the Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards have gone on to clinch the President’s Award for the Environment. There have already been many enquiries from this year’s awards programme from many companies, from SMEs to even public sector agencies. We are certainly looking forward to a broad range of applicants this year, with the inclusion of the SEAA (Regional) and Outstanding Singapore Environmental Achievement Award. We see the reaching out to our neighbouring nations within Southeast Asia as a unique opportunity to build partnerships and recognise environmental achievements within the region.”
5 For the SEAA 2012, the SEC has appointed Ernst & Young, one of the world’s leading professional services firms, as a Strategic Partner. The partnership between the SEC and Ernst and Young will extend for three years beginning with the SEAA 2012.
6 Said Mr Raymond, “The appointment of Ernst and Young further anchors the award as Singapore’s premier accolade for organisations with excellent environmental performance and governance. Ernst & Young has a track record in assurance, tax, transactions and advisory services, which places them in the best position to partner us on the auditing process for this prestigious award.”
7 The list of award categories for SEAA 2012 are as follows:
- Outstanding Singapore Environmental Achievement Award
- Singapore Environmental Achievement Award (Manufacturing)
- Singapore Environmental Achievement Award (Services)
- Singapore Environmental Achievement Award (Public Sector)
- Singapore Environmental Achievement Award (Regional)
- SEC-Senoko Energy Green Innovation Award
8 To encourage organisations to apply for the awards, a workshop will be held on 9 March 2012 at the Singapore Management University for potential applicants to understand the programme and process better. Top achiever from the SEAA 2011, Temasek Polytechnic, will be sharing with applicants their experience and what they have gained from being honoured as a top achiever at the SEAA 2011.
9 The presentation ceremony for the SEAA 2012 will be held on 23 August at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. The Guest-of-Honour for the event is Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.
10 The deadline for applications is 9 April 2012, and application forms and guidelines are now available upon request from the SEC. Interested parties should visit http://www.seaa.sg/ for more information on application guidelines, award categories, and eligibility.
