The French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore engages its member companies to join hands for a more sustainable economy [Press Releases]
Singapore – 16 April 2012: 32 French and Singapore companies (annex A) came together to commit their businesses to sustainability practices by signing a “Sustainability Charter” on 13 April 2012.
This Charter initiated by the Sustainability Committee of the French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (FCCS) is a commitment at local level to promote sustainability, share with other organisations and undertake projects in Singapore and in the region.
On 13 April, a panel of experts presented their views on “Engaging together for Sustainability: Green, inclusive and responsible economy”. More than 150 people participated to the launch event that gathered companies, entrepreneurs, representatives of government and NGOs. This forum aimed at presenting pathways of collaboration among business partners for a sustainable and responsible value chain and highlighting multi-stakeholders strategic partnerships in Asia towards green economy.
Alstom, AXA, Danone, SDV, STMicroelectronics, Rhodia, Nexus 4D, and Veolia Water shared their best practices, initiatives and views.
Part of the initiative includes the launch of a new Guidebook for Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility – a timely initiative in line with Singapore’s increasing focus on the subject. The book is an effective complementary guide for local SMEs, which make up 99.3% of total Singaporean enterprises, serving as a good supplement to Singapore Exchange’s first-ever guide to sustainability reporting launched last year (note. The guidebook is available on demand).
“Since the launch of our new Sustainability Committee, we have been impressed by the great response and involvement of our members. We hope that we will keep the momentum high and wish to develop further joint activities with Singaporean organisations”, said Carine Lespayandel, Executive Director of the FCCS.
Thomas Thomas, Executive Director of Singapore Compact for Corporate Social Responsibility, has expressed immense support for FCCS’s initiative – “This Guide is aligned with the advice Singapore Compact had been giving to Singapore companies. We hope that this guide will enable more organizations to take the first steps and chart their journey,” he said.
